About EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based approach recommended by the World Health Organisation for trauma recovery and can also be used for a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, and grief & loss. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR helps your brain reprocess distressing memories while building new neural connections – think of it as “updating” how your nervous system responds to past events.

About Art & Play Therapy

Clinical Art & Play Therapy uses a range of directive and non-directive techniques to explore deeper emotions and body wisdom that cannot always be expressed in words.  Where words fall short, we might use art materials, sand tray symbols, or image cards to engage your whole brain and body.  There are forms of Clinical Art & Play Therapy used with clients of all ages, from children through to older adults.

Child-Centred Play Therapy and Filial Play Therapy

I see a limited number of children using only non-directive, child-centred play therapy.  This provides children with a safe environment to fully express themselves and work through their emotions through play, with the focused support of the therapist.  This is different to talking to kids about their problems, asking them questions, or teaching them “skills”.  This intervention is working on a deeper level with the child and their nervous system with the goal of improving emotional regulation gradually over time.  Therapist-led child-centred therapy is a more long-term intervention usually requiring 20 sessions or more that are attended on a very consistent basis.
I also provide Filial Play Therapy where I coach parents/carers in the play therapy room to provide child-centred play therapy to their child.  This is my preferred form of therapy with children as deepening the parent-child connection in this way often leads to increased emotional regulation in children and can easily be transferred to the home environment.  Filial Play Therapy can be provided in approximately 10 sessions, including parent training sessions with follow-up coaching sessions as required.
Please Contact Us to enquire about my availability if these interventions sound like the right fit for your child and your family’s needs.  Please be mindful that after-school session times are very limited and this will increase the wait time to up to 12 months or more.

Animal Assisted Therapy

I have Tilly, a mini Groodle Therapy Dog who has limited availability 1-2 days per week between the hours of 9am-3pm (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays).  Tilly can be included in sessions to provide warmth, humour, and co-regulation (through pats and play).  Tilly is not suited to all clients and not all clients wish to have a dog trying to lick their face while attending Therapy!  Your inclusion of Tilly in sessions is optional and can be discussed with our Admin Team.
Please note that young children will need to be assessed for safety first before Tilly can attend their sessions- this can be discussed with Admin Team and Jacqui when you meet for parent intake.
